Flying Carpets: Thomas Ruff, Transylvania & Anatolia

The National Museum of Art of Romania, Bucharest

Flying Carpets - Thomas Ruff & Transylvania & Anatolia brings forth the collision of tradition and modernity, of local and global, the fusion between apparently irreconcilable values, so relevant for our hybrid present.
Along with a selection of 15 precious Anatolian carpets dating from the 16th-18th centuries, pertaining to the MNAR collections in Bucharest and to the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu, the exhibition introduces 15 mind-blowing carpets by Thomas Ruff, from his d.o.pe series, named after Aldous Huxley’s Doors of Perception (1954).
