Propaganda images of China from the period between 1950 and 1970, which were distributed worldwide by the Chinese Communist Party with the magazine "La Chine" in various languages, have been digitally processed by Thomas Ruff for his series Tableaux chinois and now published in a large-format photo volume. By linking the printing grid of the 'analogue' offset print of the original with the 'digital' structure of the pixel image, the propaganda images of the 20th century are transported into the visual language of the 21st century.
