In 1992, through his preoccupation with the various apparatuses and techniques that could be used to support visual perception, Thomas Ruff came across stereo photography. In his opinion, it clarifies what you see with the brain and not with your eyes. In addition, stereo photography is, he believes, an ideal way to make “travel photographs” because, owing to the 3D effect, the stereoscopic images of a place create the illusion that you are actually there. His shots are presented in specially made stereo-boxes in which the two photos are viewed simultaneously with the help of mirrors.
